  1. English was in my heart since i was in Elementary School. I took my first course at English First. My teacher was Emily. She was very beautiful. She taught me about many animals, vegetables, and fruits. My course was interesting. Because of that, i love English.

  2. my first interesting activity in english when I've an assignment in second grade of JHS to sing an english song in front of the class every 3month, since that I like to listen to english song and search its lyrics and I've an interesting english course too in JHS so in my JHS I like english very much and in my SHS I don't speak english very much, maybe only at english class and I didn't continue my english course and I hope in UGM my relationship with english like a boyfriend loves his girlfriend...

  3. I’ve been learning English since I was a little boy and I’ve been improving rapidly ever since. My abilities to speak and understand the English language surely have helped me in doing 1 of my favorite thing in life which is reading comic books. Back in Jakarta I used to buy lots of Marvel and DC superhero comics. So in order to understand the dialogues and storylines, I was required to have the ability to read in English. It doesn’t only helped me to understand what’s going on in the story but it also taught lots of new phrases and slangs because surprisingly superheroes these days (especially Spider-Man and Iron Man) used lots of slang words when they talk. So for all those helps English has given me, I realized now that I love it so much.

  4. My relationship with English... so bad. My grammar is a mess. My vocabulary is so few. I do not really have the confidence to speak in English. I never took any English course. So I guess that can be my reason why I suck at English. If "English" is a boy and I am having a relationship with him right now, we are definitely going to break up no matter what. However I have to struggle with it anyway because it is so important to understand English completely for my future. So I hope my English will get better and improve gradually.

  5. Actually, I hate English so much. I think that English is very frightening to me. I did not used to listen and speak English. Even, I rarely listen to English songs, but I usually listen to Indonesian and Chinese songs only. That's why I dislike English. But, now I must get accustomed to English, and I must love this language of course. If I do not study hard, I will not survive in this faculty.

  6. I've found English as a fun and lovable language to learn. It is simple (except for the grammatical things), yet challenging to learn, especially for me that use English as the main language in the subjects of my class.

All of us know that English is a vital—absolutely necessary to learn. I and you need it! We study at Faculty of Economics and Business, so one day if we become a successful businessman, we have to speak English to our foreign clients fluently. That's why it's very important. In fact, i'm very bad at speaking in English. But English is not all about speaking. It's also about writing, reading, and listening.

My English skill is absolutely necessary to be improved. I won't stop.
I'll keep on learning and improving my English skill to build my relationship with English to a better level.

    I ♥ ENGLISH

  7. My...allow me to comment that this is one of the most unique ways of doing paperwork. Let me introduce myself, I'm Fariz, sir. I wasn't at your first class with the IUP A class students because I overslept. I'll try hard not to do that again, I'm sorry sir. Allow me to start :

English and I have a unique relationship. We understand each other and well integrated. I understand that I'm more capable of expressing various ideas and opinions in the English language than any other.

I've lived a part of my life overseas, which interlocked my relationship with English. If I ever wanted to communicate and to understand, it would be through English. My background knowledge isn't a loss. I understand there are different spoken English, one of which is slang. I personally prefer the gentlemanly part of English. Analogically speaking, if English were a beautiful young lady I meet at a random occasion I would say, " My...please, let me say you look extravagant this evening."

Right now, I understand the importance of progress in learning English. I hope this is enough.

  8. I dreamed of being able to speak English fluently when I was an Elementary School student. Lucky me, my mother had sent me to an English course since I was in Junior High School. Now, thanks God, the dream comes true. I can speak English well, though not really fluently. Of course I still have to keep on learning to improve my English skill.

  9. english has been my second language since i was in JHS.

i learn to speak English since i was kid by watching cartoon and Disney Movies. back then, Disney is like every kid's favorite movie and just like other kids, I watch them and they always have an amazing characters and that motivate me to learn English so i can wholly understand what's going on in the movie and what happen to my favorite character. and I always watch my favorite movie over and over again so I remember what they said and after that, i open my dictionary and i memorize things. and the only reason why i want to open dictionary is because it's the Disney version of dictionary where all Disney characters were all in it to explain the meaning of the words. and that helped me a lot.

and now I think English is like our life needs because we're now facing the globalization, so, it's like my life-holder because i don't want to be left behind by the world and many information come from other country and is very informative and beneficial.

I'm not really good in English, especially in grammar, but i always try to improve my skills.

    thank you.

  10. I first “met” English 6 years ago, introduced by my teacher. That time, I had difficulties conversing with "her" and that made me stayed away for some time. Funnily enough, as time goes on, I came to take a liking for “her” and I could say my life would not be as now as it is, should I not met “her”. Foreign friends, international forums, untranslated novels, are just a few of many things I would not get into without English. For me, English is another entity of me that I wish to have better understanding of.

  14. English was like a second language to me after my mom thaught me in the second grade. Before that I couldn't speak or write in english at all. We moved abroad when I was still 7 years old because my dad got a job in an oil company run by the Brunei government,so we all had to move there. When I first came into my new classroom I was so nervous I just sat in the corner and didn't say a word because I didn't know what to say. I didn't know english at first. I was really terrible at english even my teacher laughed at me. My mom had to push me to study english because I was so lazy at it. Since that I've been using english 70% of the time in my everyday life.

  15. I started to learn English when I was in 5th grade of elementary school. Learning English was not as easy as I thought. At that time, I really couldn’t understand English at all. My English were horrible, I couldn’t pronounce well. Moreover, my grammars were bad and vocabularies were few. Knowing that I’ve suffered with English, my mother had to persuade me to take English course. After that, my English became much better. I can read English novels and I don’t need any subtitle to watch western movie. However, I still have many difficulties in grammar and vocabulary, so I keep trying to improve my English by learning not only at university but also in daily life. For me English has been part of my life, because English really help me to get closer to the international world and communicating with any people in the world.

  16. English is one of the most important language in my life. I have to use English everyday because I join with IUP program in UGM. I have studied English since I was in the first grade of Elementary School. When I was in the Elementary and Junior High School, I joined with an English course in English First (EF). My experience using English had improved since I joined with the English debate group of my Senior High School. I had joined with many debate competitions and it really increased my ability especially in speaking and listening. The worst part of my English is grammar. I rarely get good score in grammar.

  17. I've been learning English since I was 5 years old. I just remember that at that time, my mother taught me on how to spell numbers in English correctly. So I started my long journey in learning English language with the words "one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten". Just those ten simple words, before I actually went to some serious English courses, starting as a Trailblazer at EF English First and having many TOEFL and IELTS preparations during my Senior High School times. Then here I am now, majoring Business and also improving my English skills in IUP FEB UGM.

  18. My first time learn English is when i was primary school. In that time, i didn't know and care how important English is. So i didn't take the materials seriously. Then when i was high school, i joined international class, and faced that my English is not really good compared to my friends. Then, i tried hard to improve my English by my self. Finally, i was graduated with a good score, though my English is not the best. Now, i joined International Undergraduate Program in University of Gadjah Mada since i already know how much important English in this global life. I really hope i can improve my English skill again here to be the best. Things that still being my problems are bad grammar and poor vocabulary.

  19. Since I was a kid, I was very interested in English. My mother bought me a lot of English books. There were such as story books and simple exercise books. And when I was in senior high school, my interest in English was very high and actually I tried to join English study club but I had full extra activities outside the school,so I couldn't join and I decided to take a English course. Since I'd been learning English from my courses I became much better in any aspect so now I could understand what "bule" said.

  20. I can speak English even though just a very little bit, but I am sure that I can understand what people say in English well. Everyday, I watch the television program that are broad casted in English. HBO, E Channel and Star World are my favorite , and I'm so glad when I find that I don't need to understand that with Indonesian subtitles. What I have to do right now is to collect my confidence to talking English as well

  21. English, I've been living with it since kinder garden. Though mostly I learned English through watching TV and playing video games.

Thanks to that, it has given me great opportunities for many achievements in my educational life. [It's true that TV and video games can educate children]

The climax of that was when I live alone abroad in Singapore for 4 years. English has enabled me to communicate with many kinds of people, thus becoming acquaintances and even becoming friends. Because of that, I got great memories of meeting various individuals.

    Thanks English

  22. I have been learning English since I was a little girl. When I was in Junior High School, I learned English hard. I joined many English competitions, such as English Debate Contest and Telling Stories Competition.

When I was in Senior High School, I planned to major International Undergraduate Program at Gadjah Mada University. This program requires us to have English language proficiency, as indicated by TOEFL score of at least 500. I learned English, especially TOEFL harder. Finally, I could pass the requirement.

English has made my dream comes true. I love English.

  23. I have a very good relationship with English. I learnt English as a second language since I was in the third grade. My teacher said I have a better ability in English, whether in speaking or writing among my friends, and that’s makes me confident. Since in the elementary school until senior high school, I got several achievements and trophies related to English usage. And when I was in senior high school, I was a chief of English organization which includes of Debate, Story-Telling and Speech activities. I know my English ability is so rubbish if compared with my new friends now, but I will spend my time wisely to study to make it perfect :)

  24. When I was in second grade, my mother asks me to take English course. She said that English lesson in the school is not good enough and she also said that I must have at least one soft skill in order to survive the tight competition in the future. At that time I don’t really care what she’s talking about and I just followed her order. But after I join with an English class, I feel very bored because sitting in the chair and listening the teacher until two hours while my other friends can play without the need to study at that time. I think I don’t have much time to play with my friends but I never told this problem to my parents. Because of this difficult situation, so I was not really serious in taking this English course. Only sitting and listening but get nothing. After I joined the IUP program in UGM, I realized that my English skill is far behind compared with my other friend; I regret not having studied English more seriously. And I remember what my mother said to me. Absolutely every word she spoke contains a thousand of advice. Now I try to learn English from the basic and try to exercise in writing, reading books and watching box office movies. I think everything that I learn is still in progress, not really fluent like my friends in IUP program but I always remember in my mind that there is no late for studies.

  26. The first time i learned about english when i was in United State, specifically in second grade of elementry school. At that time my parent kept motivating me to speak english all the time, took me for additional english lesson, kept talking to other people, and so on. Of course that habit makes me the student i am today. With the english skill i've got until now, it has many benefit in my daily life for example to be able watch and learn about hollywood movie's story without subtitle, communicate with foreign people, and of course join the IUP program. Many of my neighbor and friend are impress with me and i could even teach them a little although i still have difficulty on my grammer(to be honest)

  27. So far, English doesn’t play a big role in my life. It just stands as a school subject that I have to attend 3 times a week in senior high school, and I don’t even have to take it seriously. But now, I realize that English is important for my future, and it will be good if I start to improve my English. Now, I have the great opportunity to increase my English skills in the International Undergraduate Program, and I hope that it will give a great improvement when I graduate.

  28. I'm not so fluently in speaking English before joining this program. When the college begun, I was confused to understand the lectures. I blamed my self for choosing international program. I thought it's better for me to join the regular program which using Bahasa Indonesia.

But I know, regretting can't overcome my problem so I decided to deal with English and I can feel the benefits now. Although I'm still improving my English but I can say that English plays important role in my life.

  29. It was a great chance for me to learned English. When we looked at other Indonesians, it was only few of them who had intention to study about English. I learned this language since I was in the Elementary School and I joined ELTI English course. One of my lecturer said to me that English is a key for our bright future. I thought that it was true since this language was spoken by most people in the world. It means that English is the "window" for international challenges.

  31. In my opinion, this poem is about someone (it can be girl or boy) that still loves her or his ex-boy/girlfriend. She still remembers all of the moment that happened when they are together. But he or she realizes that everything has already changed. He or she tries to convince his or her own self that facing the truth is the best way to cure his or her own feeling right now. The best title for this poem is Heart Elegy.
